One day you feel engaged with your coworkers, full of energy and eager to start the workday … the next day, you feel absolutely drained, uninterested and unengaged. Have you ever asked yourself if you are in the right job or not? Do not worry, more than 25% of workers experience some sort of job dissatisfaction. However, if you ever felt this way, you need to assess if you are in the right job or not.
If you are starting a new job, this can be a scary experience. It is a new environment and you’re going to have to get acquainted with so many different people. All of these things can be pretty overwhelming, however, that isn’t always the case – sometimes all these overwhelming feelings you are getting are actually warning signs that this isn’t the right job for you and you should rethink about your employment.

- YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR SUPERVISOR
Your supervisor’s opinion of you is your ticket to succeed in the company. Likewise, your supervisor’s mentoring and coaching will help you grow and excel in your job. That is why your relationship with your supervisor should be an important consideration when you decide if you fit in your position. Access the ability of your supervisor to coach you through the difficult situations and see if he/she is the kind of mentor that wants you to succeed.
- CLEAR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In your department, do you have a streamlined work process? Are the tasks you are assigned clear and do not overlap with your coworkers’ tasks? Are the job responsibilities well documented? And do you understand what is required from you to do? All these are questions that can help you understand your role.
- TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Your company should offer you the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. That means offering training and development programs to develop your skills. Training and development programs could be formal or informal. Ask yourself, am I exposed to opportunities to develop my skills? Do I learn new skills (hard and soft)? What are the on-the-job development opportunities I currently have and what are the future opportunities that I can benefit from?
- CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
This is one of the biggest factors to look at while deciding if a job is a good fit for you or not. No one likes a job that does not give an appropriate room to grow and advance in their career. Career advancement is not limited to getting promoted to a higher position, but it also might include new responsibilities, learning new tools, and being exposed to new disciplines within your main field.
- TEAMWORK AND RELATIONSHIP WITH CO-WORKERS

Working together is success.” It is guaranteed that when the work environment promotes teamwork, the overall job satisfaction of the workers increases. Teamwork and team spirit make the job environment more conducing and means that in the long run, you will actually love to go to work every day.
- TAKING PRIDE IN THE COMPANY AND THE WORK THAT YOU DO
